Russia’s President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia will construct the first nuclear power station in Vietnam and plans to open a Russian-Vietnamese Centre for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies. In an article published on the eve of Putin’s visit to Hanoi due on November 12, Putin wrote about optimistic plans for cooperation in the energy sector, especially in the nuclear energy, Russian news agency (Itar-Tass) reported. “Our cooperation in the energy is not limited by only production of hydrocarbons. Russia is assisting in organization of a sector, which is new for Vietnam – the nuclear energy. Rosatom will construct the country’s first nuclear power station in the Ninh Thuan province. the power station’s two blocks are due to start working in 2023 and 2024 respectively. We are also discussing plans to construct a Centre for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies.” “A traditionally key role in development of the Russia-Vietnam industrial and investment cooperation play the energy and the oil and gas sector.” The president made an example naming the VietSovPetro joint company, where the production over several past years made 206 million tones of oil, and the aggregated revenues made dozens of billion dollars. “Quite promising is cooperation in the peaceful development of the space and use of the Russian GLONASS satellite system, in development of aviation and railway transport, engineering, mining, banking, healthcare,” Putin said. “Our cooperation in the military-technical sphere is developing on a new level. The cooperation is not limited by only export to Vietnam – Russian companies are involved in licensed production in Vietnam of advanced military equipment,” he said.
