Russia's Strategic Missile Forces carried out a training launch of a Topol intercontinental ballistic missile from the northern Plesetsk cosmodrome, Sputnik quoted the Russian Defense Ministry as saying Friday.

"During the drill, the reliability of the transmission of training and combat orders was tested throughout the chain of command, from the National Defense Management Center to the command posts of units and formations," the ministry said in a statement.

"A combat crew of the Strategic Missile Troops launched a Topol intercontinental ballistic missile from the Plesetsk space center," the ministry said.

An Iskander missile complex fired a missile at a target on the Kapustin Yar rocket testing site in the Astrakhan region," it added.
