A Russian emergencies ministry transport plane evacuated 59 people from the Syrian port city of Latakia, Sputnik quoted an official at the Russian embassy in Syria as saying.

It said the latest delivery of humanitarian cargo to Syria and the evacuation of 80 people took place on May 28.

"The plane has delivered some 21 metric tones of humanitarian aid [to Syria]. On a return flight, it took 59 people — nationals of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Syrian members of Russian families," the diplomat said.
