The Saudi Cabinet, under Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Salman bin Abdulaziz, approved resuming talks with Egypt on the power linkage project in which great strides have been already made. The Cabinet on Monday decided to hold discussions with Egypt on the draft Memorandum of Understanding in the field of the power linkage project between the two countries. The estimated cost of the project is 3 billion dollars, divided equally between the two sides. The project aims to exchange 3,000 megawatts of electricity between the two power-hungry countries through direct current electrical lines during rush hours which differ in the two countries. It is initially expected to start trial operation in 2015.
