Faisal Trad, Saudi Arabia's envoy to the UN, is shocked by the complete negligence of the world community where the life of Syrian refugees is concerned.

More than 350,000 Syrians have so far died and about 8 million have been displaced while the world community chooses to turn a blind eye to their plight, Trad said.

A civilization that dates back to thousands of years has also been destroyed, he added.

Is all that not enough for the UN Security Council to live up to its responsibility in rescuing the rest of the Syrian people?, Trad wondered.

The Syrian people are facing genocide at the hands of the regime of Bashar al Assad, the Saudi diplomat said in his speech at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) here Monday.

World silence has given the Syrian regime the green light to continue to support terrorism and recruit terrorists from all over the world, Trad said.

The Syrian regime is using Daesh as a reason to justify its actions; claiming that it is fighting terrorism, he told the UNHRC.

Both have become two sides of the same coin, Trad said.

A political solution to the Syrian crisis will not be successful unless Assad steps down, he stressed. Assad should not be part of any future arrangements, the Saudi diplomat insisted.

Foreign troops, including Hezbollah, should also withdraw and Iran should stop interfering in domestic affairs of countries in the region, Trad said.
