Israeli forces opened the gates of dams in eastern Gaza Strip, releasing a torrent of water that inundated a large number of Palestinian homes in nearby areas, the Gaza Interior Ministry said Sunday.
A state of emergency was declared to evacuate the residents of these houses after the water level rose to more than three and a half meters.
More than 80 families were evacuated and given a shelter at the UNRWA centers.
Israel builds many sand dams along borders with Gaza to collect rain waters and in case their level rose they open them and release water into the enclave instead of Israeli cultivated lands.
