The commander of UNIFIL, General Paolo Serra, said Sunday that the partnership between the army and UN forces in southern Lebanon is excellent and this prevails in the calm situation which has been sustained for years now. General Serra sponsored Sunday’s handover in command of the air force of the Italian contingent in Naqoura, southern Lebanon. Six years after issuing UN resolution 1701, south Lebanon lives through unprecedented peace due to “the strong relationship between UNIFIL and the army, and continues with the support of the Lebanese people,” National News Agency (NNA) quoted Serra as saying. “UNIFIL is still determined to help the parties to consolidate the cessation of hostilities and to anchor the total respect of the implementation of resolution 1701. To this end, we will continue our close cooperation with the Lebanese army and the Lebanese authorities our UN partners, as well as the execution of our mission,” he added.
