Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Wednesday congratulated the Amir, government and people of the State of Qatar on the occasion of its National Day. Sheikh Sabah highlighted, in press statements during a reception held by the Qatari Embassy here to mark the occasion, the deep-rooted relations between Kuwait and Qatar, and keenness of the two countries' leaders to further boost the relations in various fields. He noted that Kuwait will receive next year the rotating presidency of the Arab summit from Qatar, and hand over to Qatar the presidency of the GCC summit. For his part, Kuwait Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ambassador Khaled Al-Jarallah, expressed in a similar press statements, his pleasure and congratulations on the national day. "The state-to-state relationship between Kuwait and Qatar is as close as the people-to-people one," Al-Jarallah said. He recalled Qatari role in the liberation of Kuwait from the Iraqi invasion, lauding the development and progress of Qatar which "reflect keenness of its leadership on building a modern country." Qatar celebrates its National Day in commemoration of December 18, 1878, when its historic leader and founder Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad bin Thani assumed power.
