Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has met with the UN permanent delegates of China, the current president of the UN Security Council session, France, Russia, the US and Britain, Spain, Malaysia, Chile and Angola.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Badr Abdel Aati said Shourky reviewed the current Egyptian efforts to urge the UNSC assume its responsibilities as regards the deteriorating situation in Libya and the possibility of lifting the ban imposed on providing arms to the Libyan government, the current legislative authority in the war-torn country.
The spokesman said Shourky reiterated the need for allowing regional countries to support the Libyan government's efforts to control the country, restore stability and assume its responsibilities as an elected legitimate government.
Shoukry also expounded the dangers posed by Daesh militant group in Libya, Syria and Iraq, pressing the need for handling the extremist group in the same way without differentiation. He also highlighted the need for the international community's intervention in confronting terrorism.
All UN delegates offered condolences and voiced their government's solidarity with Egypt and its people in face of terrorism, said the spokesman.
Shoukry also met with the Arab ambassadors to the UN and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
