Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived Wednesday in New York on a six-day visit during which he will hold talks and undertake several activities as part of efforts for garnering support for Egypt's membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2016/2017.

Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Badr Abdel Aati said that Shoukry's agenda on Thursday includes bilateral talks with his Arab and foreign counterparts along with participation in the Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference.

Shoukry will start his day with a meeting with the chief delegates of the European Union, said the spokesman, adding that Shoukry will later deliver Egypt's speech at an open discussion in the UNSC about the role of young people in fighting terrorism and extremism.

Shoukry will then have a lunch with the Arab ambassadors and then have a meeting with the African ambassadors to be followed by other meetings with members of the Asian Group and East Europe Group, added the spokesman.

Shoukry will meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and UN General Assembly President Sam Kutesa, said the spokesman, adding that the Egyptian top diplomat will also meet with US State Secretary John Kerry.

The meeting with Kerry will take up bilateral relations and the recent regional developments, particularly in Libya, Yemen, Syria and Iraq. The two sides will also take up means of fighting terrorism, the spokesman pointed out.

A three-way meeting grouping the two top diplomats and their Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh will be held within the framework of coordination by the three countries on the situation in Yemen, said the spokesman.

Shoukry will also deliver Egypt's speech at the NPT review conference, added the spokesman.
