Security troops deployed on Mohamed Mahmoud Street extensively fired tear gas to disperse protesters and force them back to Tahrir Square. A cloud of smoke covered the area and tear gas could be smelt in Tahrir Square and Falaki Street. On and off clashes have been occurring between protesters and security troops on Mohamed Mahmoud Street in downtown Cairo since the morning. Protesters gather near the American University in Cairo premises then push deeper into Mohamed Mahmoud to hurl stones at security elements sheltering inside the French school. Security troops fire tear gas to force them back to Tahrir Square.
