Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong sent condolences to Philippine President Benigno Aquino on the devastation and loss of lives caused by typhoon " Haiyan" on Sunday. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said in a statement that the Singapore government will donate 50,000 Singapore dollars (40, 000 U.S. dollars) through the Singapore Red Cross to support relief efforts in the Philippines. The Singapore Civil Defense Force has dispatched a team to Tacloban City to assist the U.N. Officer for the Coordination of Humanitarian Activities in the rescue efforts, Lee said in the letter to Aquino. He said the precautionary measures and swift relief efforts undertaken by the Philippine government have helped avert a worse outcome and that the Philippines has always demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity and is confident that the people of the Philippines will pull together and rebuild their lives.
