Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expected a prospective visit by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Japan to mark a breakthrough in bilateral ties, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry - currently in Japan - conveyed a message from Sisi to Abe on means of enhancing bilateral ties, Ahmed Abu-Zeid said.
Abe said Japan is looking forward to Sisi's visit, noting that he is keen that the visit would come up with positive results.
Sisi is scheduled to visit Japan in the first quarter of 2016 at an invitation from Abe.
During Thursday's meeting with Abe, Shoukry expounded the steps taken by Egypt to complete building its democratic institutions in view of holding the parliamentary elections - the last step in the roadmap, Abu-Zeid said.
Abe underlined that Japan would continue backing Egypt to realize stability and development.
The Japanese premier added that his country is keen on cooperating with Egypt in combating terror in view of the key role played by the Arab state at the international level in this domain. 
Abe said he is looking forward to exchanging views with Sisi concerning regional developments.
