Beirut - NNA
President of the Republic, Michel Sleiman, sternly condemned on Wednesday the "Israeli premeditated negligence of the condition of detainees in Israeli jails," which recently resulted in the death of Maisara Abu Hamdia. "Israel, which kills Palestinian civilians with heavy weaponry, refrains from heeding the necessary care for ill detainees, hence flouting the least humanitarian norms, pacts, and morals," Sleiman noted, saying this only mirrors Israel's immoral image before the world. He then called upon the international community to inspect the condition of detainees and to wield pressure on Israel to respect the related international conventions. Separately, the President met today at Baabda palace with Caretaker Minister of Environment, Nazem Khoury, over the latest political developments. Talks also touched on relevant ministerial affairs. He also met with the Army Intelligence Chief, General Edmond Fadel, over the current security situation, especially in the north and the regions bordering with Syria. Acting Internal Security Forces Chief, General Roger Salem, had also been to Baabda today to meet with Sleiman. Furthermore, the President received the new board of the Maronite League, headed by Samir Abi Lamaa.
