Syrian President Bashar al-Assad

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met on Wednesday with a delegation of French parliamentarians led by Head of the Senate’s French-Syrian Friendship Committee Jean-Pierre Vial.
The meeting took up the latest developments in the region and means to tackle terrorism groups, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
During their meeting, al-Assad stressed that fighting terrorism demands a real political will and a conviction that the outcome will be in the interest of all inasmuch as the dangers jeopardize everyone.
The French lawmakers who say they are on a non-official visit to Syria, reiterated the necessity of conveying a true message about Syria to the world community.
The visiting delegation included member of the National Assembly of France Jacques Myard deputy chairman of the Assembly’s French-Syrian Friendship Committee and Mayor of Maisone-Laffitte city and member of the Senate and Mayor of Laval city François Zocchetto.
The French foreign ministry has said the visit has nothing to do with the government.
"The lawmakers do not carry any official message," said spokesman Alexandre Giorgini.
