Thailand's main opposition Democratic Party said it would boycott February's general election. The party's leader, former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, said the decision was made to ensure that political reforms are implemented, RT reported. The party's position coincides with that of protesters who want an appointed interim government to institute reforms before new polls are held, and demand that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra step down ahead of the elections. On Saturday Yingluck, who has refused to step down, agreed that reforms needed to be made, but only after the February 2 election. Mass rallies across the capital are to take place on Sunday.
