Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said Saturday she does not believe her brother, Thaksin Shinawatra, wants to return to political life. Thaksin has been the main target of large protests in the past five weeks. Yingluck said she believes negotiating a settlement with the demonstrators is possible, the Bangkok Post reported. "Our door is still open," she told reporters in a news conference with the foreign media. She said her family does not want to be "an obstruction to peace in this country." She said Thaksin, who has been living abroad since he was ousted as prime minister in 2006 and faces a prison sentence if he returns to Thailand, has given no sign of planning a political comeback. "Right now, I don't think he wants to continue with politics. He would like to see fairness to everyone to make sure that we can work together and find a long-term solution for Thailand," Yingluck said. "My family doesn't want to hold power for our family. Any option for the majority, for peace, to move Thailand forward as a democracy, we will take it."
