Tougher rules for asylum seekers came into effect on Saturday in Hungary, which introduced the measures last month to stem arrivals, dpa reported.

The new rules will cut the time for processing asylum applications to 15 days, which speeds up the expulsion of people whose request to stay is rejected.

Some 100,000 migrants, mainly from Serbia, arrived in Hungary this year. Most use the eastern European country as a gateway to Western Europe.
