A Russian lawmaker said on Sunday a tsunami of refugees in Europe has been triggered by the United States' policy in the Middle East rather than by Russia's actions, TASS reported.

"Before September 30, 2015, Russia had sent no warplanes to Syria. So, the tsunami of refugees was not triggered by us, it was provoked by the United States' policy in the Middle East," Alexei Pushkov, the chairman of the international committee at the Russian State Duma lower parliament house, wrote on his Twitter account, commenting on pronouncements of his counterpart in Germany’s parliament, Norbert Rottgen, who said Russia's air strikes against targets in Syria was a manifestation of utter cynicism and the migrant influx in Europe was advantageous to Russia.

"The 'humane' aggression of the United States and Co in Iraq and Libya are quite another thing!," he wrote, adding that the German parliament was looking for the guilty party in a wrong place.
