The Turkish Parliament on Saturday approvedamendments to a law that will increase the government's control overthe country's top judiciary body, after a tense all-night session, dpa reported.Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling Justice and Development(AK) Party had proposed the amendments, which will enable the justiceminister to take over several powers from the Supreme Board of Judgesand Prosecutors (HSYK), including the ability to appoint judges.The board is responsible the appointment and promotion of judges andprosecutors.The bill, which was rejected by opposition parties, will next be sentto President Abdullah Gul for approval.
