Illegal immigrants in Aegean Sea

Turkey's coast guard have detained 101 migrants who were illegally trying to sail to the Greek island of Lesbos.

The migrants, who were held in Ayvalik, in Balikesir province on Monday, were taken into custody after the coast guard detected a boat sailing to Lesbos, which is located close to the Turkish border in the Aegean Sea.

Among the migrants reported to be from Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Myanmar and Eritrea were women and children.

The Aegean Sea is one of the most frequently used routes for migrants trying to reach EU countries.
