Turkish coast guards on Saturday arrested 60 illegal immigrants, who were attempting to sneak into Greece's Astakos island.

A tourist boat, carrying 60 Syrian and Iraqi nationals including children, was inspected by the coast guards, while illegal immigrants were delivered to security forces in order to transfer them to refugee camps in the country.

Turkey has stepped up a crackdown on people smuggling, arresting hundreds of asylum seekers in a single operation just hours after the country promised to curb the flow of refugees to Greece in exchange for financial aid from the EU.
