Turkey joined Friday international appeals for a ceasefire between Syrian regular troops and opposition forces during Eid Al-Adha, which falls on October 26. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told reporters Friday that both sides should at least suspend hostilities for the four-day Eid Al-Adha holiday that begins October 26. He hoped that both warring sides will positively comply with international appeals for a real truce during the Muslim festival. UN-Arab Joint Envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi, who is due to visit Damascus Saturday, has also called for a cease-fire in Syria next week. Earlier in the day, the chiefs of the UN and Arab League, Ban Ki-moon and Nabil Al-Araby respectively, appealed to fighting groups in Syria to stop war during Eid Al-Adha. A previous cease-fire in April collapsed after just a few days, with each side blaming the other. Then-mediator Kofi Annan resigned from his post in frustration.
