A senior official said Turkish authorities have searched a truck close to the border with Syria and seized 1,200 rocket heads. Huseyin Avni Cos said Thursday the weapons were discovered in Adana, 200 kilometers (125 miles) from the Turkish-Syrian border, by officials who stopped and searched the truck as part of an anti-drug smuggling effort. The Turkish official added that an investigation had been launched but said the weapons were believed to be “going to some organizations or states” outside of Turkey. He did not name them, the Epoch Times reported. Turkey, which shares a 910-kilometer (566-mile) border with Syria, is one of the biggest supporters of the massive insurgency in neighboring Syria. Syria’s Aleppo, located along Turkey borders, is one of the main supply routes used by foreign supporters of the war in Syria to send in weapons and more trained armed groups. Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad said on Monday that the Turkish government has let terrorists from 83 countries to enter Syria and fight to topple the government. The war in Syria started in March 2011, when pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of Western and regional states. The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history. The UN says Syria’s three-year civil war has killed at least 100,000 people and forced millions of Syrians from their homes.
