Turkish police

Turkish police detained on Friday a man outside the US consulate in Istanbul who claimed to have explosives attached to his body, Today's Zaman reported.
The police sealed off a street outside the consulate when the man arrived in front of the fortified building with his hand inside his coat.
The man, reportedly mentally unstable, was detained for questioning and taken for a medical examination. It was not immediately known whether the man, who was not identified, was, in fact, wearing explosives.
The consulate had taken precautionary measures following a security alert.
