Radio Israel said sirens were sounded twice in Tel Aviv area during the last hour. The radio said explosions were heard but no casualties or damage were reported, but said that it was likely that rockets fired from Gaza Strip have landed in the area. In the city of Ashdod the Iron Dome system was intercepted by a Grad rocket and Beersheba was attacked by a barrage of rockets but no casualties or damage were reported. The radio said that rocket shelling is continuing on cities adjacent to Gaza Strip, noting that four Qassam rockets landed in the Eshkol Regional Council area. Israeli security sources considered the bombardment by Palestinian resistance factions in Gaza of the vicinity of Tel Aviv as a dangerous development. The sources said that Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements have missile capabilities bigger than the Israeli security forces thought, noting that Defense Minister Ehud Barak was at haste when he announced the destruction of 90% of the capacity of the two factions’ rocket capabilities. The Israeli army radio quoted military sources as saying that Israel could not stop fighting because retreat would deal a hard blow to the capacity of the army and the morale of the residents of the south.
