A 29-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent city of Staffordshire, England, has been arrested on suspicion of encouraging terrorism and supporting a proscribed organisation, police was quoted as saying on Tuesday by the BBC.
The man was detained by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit at his home address in Stoke-on-Trent, a spokesman said.
West Midlands Police said the arrest relates to suspected online postings referencing Islamic State.
He is in custody at a police station in the West Midlands area.
A spokesman said the arrest was pre-planned and intelligence led and was not made because there was any immediate risk to public safety.
