London - KUNA
The British government called on Iran\'s new President Hassan Rohani to lead the Islamic Republic on a \"different course\" in its relations with the international community. Britain \"call on him (Rohani) to use the opportunity to set Iran on a different course for the future,\" a foreign office spokesperson said in a brief statement following Rohani\'s victory of Presidential elections. Rohani, the spokesperson added, should be \"addressing international concerns about Iran\'s nuclear programme, taking forward a constructive relationship with the international community, and improving the political and human rights situation for the people of Iran.\" Rohani was declared winner of elections earlier today with more than 18 million votes, just over the 50 percent of votes needed to avoid a run-off.
