Ukraine will continue stepping up strategic cooperation with the United States in whole range of key spheres of interaction, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich was quoted by Russian News Agency (Ttar Tass) as saying during Wednesday’s meeting with the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Wendy R. Sherman. Our cooperation embraces the key aspects of interaction on the basis of Charter on strategic partnership and guarantees efficient joint actions,” the presidential press service said, citing Yanukovich as saying. In particular, the head of state said that Kiev is ready to maintain fruitful cooperation with the U.S. partners in the nuclear security and nuclear materials non-proliferation spheres. According to Yanukovich, in the near future he jointly with the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, John Tefft, will attend an opening ceremony of a plant for recycling of intercontinental ballistic missiles’ empty engine bodies. The event will be held in Pavlograd. The president also pointed to the success in the Ukrainian-US cooperation in the removal of high-enriched uranium reserves from Ukraine’s territory. “Now we are engaged in the implementation of high technology in order to use low-enriched uranium instead of high-enriched uranium,” Yanukovich said.
