UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Thursday called on all Egyptians to refrain from violence and to resolve their differences through peaceful dialogue, amid mounting tensions between supporters and opponents of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi. \"The secretary-general notes there are many strong and opposing opinions being expressed in Egypt,\" said a statement issued here by Ban\'s spokesperson. \"He strongly encourages Egyptians to remain committed to the universal principles of peaceful dialogue and non-violence,\" said the statement. Ban also stressed the right of people to \"demonstrate peacefully\" and urged all parties in Egypt to respect this right and to obey the law. The secretary-general recognizes the need for the continued strengthening of democratic processes and an inclusive environment in which the Egyptian people can discuss and resolve their differences, according to the statement. The UN chief said that the international community has a duty to accompany this transition with sustained benefit and meaningful contributions in the interest of all Egyptians.
