The new UN envoy to Libya

The new UN envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler paid visits to Tobroq and Tripoli over the past two days as part of his efforts to resume political dialogue among Libyan rivals.
Head of the Media Committee at the Libyan Parliament Galal el Shewhdi told MENA that the Libyan parliament members asked Kobler to support the Libyan army and focus on security arrangements in any dialogue.
They pressed the UN envoy to focus on the security file in order to avoid the mistakes committed by former UN envoy Bernandino Leon.
Kobler, in brief statements during the visits, said the agreements reached during Leon's term are interim ones and there should be swift action to reach agreement in the coming phase.
The UN envoy, on his part, asserted that there is no bias to any party according to the UN principles which guarantee the unity and sovereignty of states. He also sounded the alarm against the spread of the so-called Islamic State or Daesh in the country.
