The United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) will make its first visit to Pakistan from September 10 to 20 on the invitation of the government, said a press statement. During the mission, UN experts will gather information on cases of forced disappearances pending before the Working Group (WG). They will also study the measures adopted by the state to prevent and eradicate forced disappearances, including issues related to truth, justice and reparation to the victims. The WG will visit various parts of the country and meet with state officials, both at federal and provincial levels, as well as with representatives of civil society organisations, relatives of missing people and representatives of relevant UN agencies. A final report on the mission will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council in 2013.
