UN forces stationed along the Israeli-Syrian borders decided to beef up their security as tensions in the Golan Heights continue to mount. U.N. peacekeeping forces’ chief Herve Ladsous said a number of countries contributing to the U.N. Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) are concerned after two Austrian soldiers were shot on November 29 in a Damascus area close to the airport where the government troops and rebels have been fighting. Ladsous said extra armored cars would be sent to the forces in Golan as Syrian and Israeli forces have repeatedly exchanged fire across the ceasefire line.
