With the growing influx of Syrian refugees into the Kingdom, the Jordan Royal Borders Guard personnel are exerting tremendous efforts to provide them with a safe haven. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representative in Jordan, Andrew Harper, underlined the role played by the Jordan Armed Forces in providing security and protection to the refugees once they cross into the Jordanian territories. In statements to Petra, Harper said the Jordanian army serves as a humanitarian and security model in the region, adding that the soldiers spare no efforts to help and protect the Syrian refugees in even the most difficult of the situations. He also spoke about the Border Guards personnel who provide the refugees with shelter, food, medical assistance and emergency aid for the wounded. The Jordanian soldiers, he affirmed, pay little heed to bad weather conditions and continue providing services for the refugees, whose number has reached more than 600,000, a large majority of them being women, children and the elderly.
