UNESCO has strongly condemned the terrorist attack, which was foiled on Wednesday in the vicinity of the Karnak Temple in Luxor.

In a statement Thursday, UNESCO Secretary General Irina Bokova expressed support for the Egyptian government in its fight against extremism.

Bokova stressed that the attack was not only a hostile act against people lives but also against culture.

On Wednesday, five people, including two policemen, were hurt in an attack at the historic site of Karnak, in Luxor.
