Egypt's Permanent Delegate to the UN in New York Amr Aboul Atta called on the UN to bear its responsibilities toward the peace process.

During a session held by the UNSC on the Mideast conditions, Aboul Atta said that the challenges which face the two-state solution are serious in light of the Israeli settlement activity.

The failure to attain peace in the Mideast is not an option before the international community, he added.

He also pointed out to the Arab Peace Initiative and the recent Arab Summit decision in Sharm el Sheikh to assign the Arab ministerial delegation to consult with the UNSC to adopt a decision which affirms Arab's commitment to the principles mentioned in the Arab Peace Initiative.

Egypt will continue to exert efforts and cooperate with all the parties who want to attain peace in the Middle East, he affirmed.

He also welcomed the current international efforts to coordinate with the parties concerned, topped by Egypt, with the aim of going again to the UNSC in the near future to submit a draft resolution which aims to revive the peace process according to specific criteria and time frame.

Aboul Atta, meanwhile, urged donor countries to fulfill their pledges made for the Gaza Strip during the Egypt-hosted Gaza Reconstruction Conference.
