US adoption of Egyptian-backed resolution on the impact of terror on human rights has confused many calculations as New York opposed it at the beginning, the Egyptian permanent envoy to the United Nations Human Rights Council said.

During the 30th session of the Human Rights Council, which wrapped up on Friday, Egypt –which is an observer state at the council – managed to secure support for the resolution which was opposed by the US and some European states, Amr Ramadan said.

Egypt was not enthusiastic to support a resolution on combating violent extremism which was tendered by the US, France, Morocco, Tunisia. Iraq, Bangladesh and Mali, he said.

He said Egypt opposed the US' confinement to a modernized concept of violent extremism, while the international law has recognized the terrorism phenomenon.

The first edition of the resolution established a causal relationship between respecting civil and political rights and resorting to violence and extremism.

He said the participation of foreigners in the terrorist Daesh group refutes this causal relationship upon which the resolution is based.

The envoy noted that joint Arab coordination at the council has given leverage to participating Arab states.
