The United States strongly condemned Wednesday's terrorist attacks in Egypt’s North Sinai in which dozens of Egyptian soldiers were killed and others wounded, US State Department Spokesperson John Kirby said on Thursday.

"We express our sincere condolences to the victims, their families, and the government and the people of Egypt."

These attacks come as Egypt is mourning the assassination of its prosecutor general Hesham Barakat on Monday.

"The perpetrators of these cowardly crimes must be brought to justice. The United States remains steadfast in its support of the Egyptian Government’s efforts to combat terrorism in Egypt."
