The US voiced Monday concern over the interim Egyptian government's "terrorist" designation of the Muslim brotherhood and ongoing detentions and arrests. State Department Deputy Spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters "we are concerned about the interim Egyptian government's December 25th terrorist designation of the Muslim Brotherhood as well as the ongoing detentions and arrests, including for peaceful demonstrators, civil society and political activists." She added "we remain deeply concerned about all of the politically motivated arrests, detentions and charges in Egypt." She stressed that "these actions raise questions about the rule of law being applied impartially and equitably and do not move Egypt's transition forward."
