US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said that Washington is committed to achieving North Korea's denuclearization through negotiations.

"We will continue, not only the US and South Korea, but also China, Japan and Russia, the so-called six-party talks, to call for denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. That remains our policy," Carter said at a press conference at the inter-Korean military demarcation line inside the truce village of Panmunjom. "We believe that they should be on the path on doing less and ultimately zero in the nuclear field", according to Yonhap News Agency on Sunday.

The US still prefers negotiations with the nuclear-armed North, the top US defense official said, adding, "We remain committed to achieving that negotiated outcome with North Korea".
