Washington - KUNA
The US military is evacuating around 100 Special forces from Al Anad airbase in southern Yemen on Saturday due to the deteriorating security situation in the country, a source, who was not named, told CNN.
These troops are believed to be the last American troops stationed in the country. One of the most dangerous branches of Al Qaeda, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) is present in Yemen.
On Friday, 137 people were killed and 357 were injured after four suicide bombers targeted two mosques in Sanaa. AP and NBC News have also cited sources confirming the evacuation.
GCC, Arab and Western countries have closed their embassies, including the US, in Sanaa following the coup of the Houthi rebels which triggered deterioration of security situation.
The Pentagon said after the closure of the embassy that there were special American forces in Yemen to carry out special anti-terrorism operations.
Interior Ministers of Arab Gulf countries have earlier warned that further deterioration of security conditions in Yemen would undermine regional and international security and stability.
