"I was inspired by the enduring spirit and determination of Kuwaitis to rebuild their country (back in 1991). Now, over twenty years later, I still see that spirit and determination expressed through Kuwait's growing leadership role in a region facing significant challenges," said US Ambassador to Kuwait Matthew H. Tueller. The diplomat's remark came in a press release in which he extended his congratulations to the government and people of Kuwait on the 53th Independence Day and 23rh Liberation Day, February 25 and 26. The diplomat stressed his country and Kuwait "share an understanding of the importance of ensuring regional peace and security" but added the bonds and relations go beyond the official and the political sphere. Tueller noted that the roots of a strong person-to-person connection between the two nations go as far back as a century ago with the founding of the American Mission Hospital as Kuwait's first modern medical facility. "Turning to the future, I believe that the bonds between Americans and Kuwaitis will continue to grow and deepen."
