Sweden's Radio said the US government contacted Sweden's Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist to ask for support in the fight against the extremist group Isis, also known as IS or Daesh.

The Nordic country was contacted via a letter from the US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, who wrote to his Swedish counterpart.

Hultqvist's press spokesperson Marinette Nyh confirmed to Swedish tabloid Expressen that the letter had arrived "not very long ago" and that a response was being "prepared right now".
