The US State Department on Thursday hosted a ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the current three-day summit on fighting terrorism and extremism that kicked off on Wednesday and hosted by the White House.
The meeting, that was held in cooperation with the US Departments of Justice and Internal Security, is aimed at tackling the threat of foreign fighters who joined terrorist groups such as Daesh.
The meeting is taking over means of enhancing exchange of information and cooperation in the domain of fighting these terrorist elements that are posing more of a threat to the international community.
According to the State Department, the timing of the meeting is very important as it was held at a time when reports are circulating to the effect that more than 200,000 foreign fighters from more than 100 countries have traveled to Syria and Iraq to join Deash terrorist group.
Participating in the meeting were several countries including Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Jordan, Morocco, the UAE, Tunisia, Russia, Germany, Australia, the Netherlands, Spain and Britain along with representatives from the European Union and the Interpol.
