The US military announced Wednesday it was withdrawing a dozen fighter jets from Turkey, a day after the U.S. Secretary of Defense visited the country to discuss how to bolster international efforts against Daesh.

The F-15 aircraft will move from Turkey back to their base in Britain, U.S. European Command said Wednesday.

Six F-15e Strike Eagles were deployed to Turkey on November 13 to conduct strikes in Syria and Iraq against Daesh. In addition, on November 6, six F-15c Eagles, an air-to-air interceptor, were relocated to Turkey’s Incirlik air base, to help bolster the country’s defenses.

Military officials said the deployments of the F-15s were always supposed to be short-term. Defense officials said other ground attack planes would shortly be sent to Turkey.
