The Vatican lauded on Wednesday efforts exerted by Egypt to fight terrorism and extremism.

The Vatican deputy prime minister, during a meeting with newly-appointed Egyptian ambassador to the Vatican Hatem Seif el Nasr, paid tribute to Egypt's efforts in spreading moderation and achieving peace and stability in the Middle East.

The diplomat said Egypt attaches importance to developing relations with the Vatican based on mutual respect and constructive cooperation.

The Egyptian diplomat will hand over his credentials to Pope Francis of the Vatican within days.
