Washington works to achieve 2-state solution for Middle East crisis

Spokesman of the US Department of State John Kirby denied reports on a French initiative to acknowledge the Palestinian state if all efforts to revive a peace process and the two-state solution failed within the coming weeks.

At a daily press briefing, Kirby said "For our part, we continue to engage with our partners to find a constructive way forward in terms of advancing our shared goal of a two-state solution, and we’re going to continue to do that."

"We continue to believe that what’s important here is that the two sides (Palestinians and Israelis) begin to have those discussions and to try to move forward to getting to a two-state solution. That’s what we’ve been saying all along and what we continue to believe." Kirby added.

US Secretary of State John Kerry phoned Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas over the past two days, asserting that he is still keen on contacting all parties.
