Senior White House officials said a meeting of US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin in New York on Monday will focus on the developments in Syria and Ukraine.

At a press conference over the phone, officials said Obama will try to understand Russia's vision towards intensive Russian military presence in Syria and how to use it in facing Daesh terrorists.

Obama will underline Washington's policy aiming to achieve a political transition in Syria.

As for Ukraine, Obama is expected to discuss the implementation of Minsk agreement, reached in February and relevant Russian commitments.

Meanwhile, the White House officials said Obama will not meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
