Yemen has officially demanded the U.S. authorities to provide it with reasons for decisions to impose financial sanctions on Yemeni nationals on charge of financing terrorist organizations.This came in a formal request, which was handed over by Charge d’Affairs of the Yemeni embassy in Washington Adel Ali al-Sonini to the U.S. Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes, Jennifer Fowler, during a meeting on Friday in Washington.The meeting touched on the U.S. presidential decision on sanctions against individuals and entities that threaten the peace, security and stability in Yemen by hindering the transitional phase.In the meeting, al-Sonini confirmed the hard position of Yemen in the fight against terrorism, pointing at the same time that the Yemeni government does not adopt decisions that are inconsistent with the Constitution and laws of Yemen.He expressed his hope that the U.S. side to provide the Yemeni government with comprehensive information on the Yemeni nationals surveyed by the decisions of the U.S. Treasury Department to impose sanctions against them on charges of funding terrorist organizations or receiving financial support from internationally-banned organizations, and most recently, Dr Abdul Wahab Homaiqani.In this regard, al-Sonini voiced the willingness of the Yemeni side to embrace lawsuits against all those involved in those charges before the Yemeni courts.Al-Sonini also reviewed the matrix of the overall national strategy to combat terrorism in Yemen, which aims to dry up the sources of extremism and sources of its funding.For his part, the U.S. official praised the aspects of cooperation between Yemen and the U.S. in the fight against terrorism within the framework of international partnership to confront this scourge, pointing out that the Yemeni request will be considered and responding to it as soon as possible."We are committed to continue our coordination and partnership with the Yemeni government in the fight against terrorist organizations and targeting their support networks", the U.S. official said.
