Yemeni Defense Minister Maj. Gen. Mohamed Nasser Ahmed met on Monday the European Union (EU) delegation to build marine capacities, currently visiting Yemen. During the meeting, they reviewed and discussed a number of issues associated with the expansion of military cooperation areas between Yemen and the EU mission to build capacity of Yemeni navy and coastguard and enhance their performance for maritime security and the fight against maritime piracy and smuggling , Yemen News Agency(Saba) reported. The meeting touched on areas of support to be provided by the mission through training programmes and assistance in the field of laws as well as assistance in light marine equipment and requirements of strengthening the partnership with the Navy and the Coastguard. The minister highly appreciated the EU’s contributions and its support for Yemen, especially in the military and security fields and the distinct partnership in these aspects. For his part, head of the EU’s delegation explained that the delegation’s visit was aimed to identify the needs and requirements of the navy and the coastguard in order to support the capacities of Yemeni navy and provide the possible assistance in the maritime security area.
